The principle of phototherapy is that bilirubin can absorb light. Under the action of light and oxygen, lipophilic bilirubin is oxidized into a water-soluble product (photo oxidized bilirubin, also known as dipyrrole), which can be excreted from bile or urine, thereby reducing the concentration of unconjugated bilirubin in serum. The absorption band of bilirubin is 400-500 nanometers, especially at wavelengths of 420-440 nanometers where the light splitting effect is strongest. The main peak of blue fluorescence wavelength is between 425-475 nanometers, so blue fluorescent lamps are often used for treatment. In recent years, there have been reports that green light has a better yellowing effect than blue light.
